About Us

  • At Giles Chocolatier, we believe life’s better with a little chocolate — preferably the good kind.

Handcrafted in small batches right here in New Plymouth, our chocolates are made the old-fashioned way: by hand, with care, and with a healthy respect for beautiful ingredients.

Gavin Giles grew up in Taranaki before taking his craft to the world. After training in New Zealand and refining his skills in London — working in high-end hotels and patisseries — he brought that experience home. What followed? A whole lot of cocoa, creativity, and flavour combinations you won’t find anywhere else.

    Our Mission

To create beautiful, handcrafted chocolate that brings a little joy to everyday moments — and makes the special ones even sweeter.

  • 6 pictures in a grid. The left hand pictures top three male butchers ready to work, bottom the men at work. The middle top and bottom show the house and shop in the 1930's the right hand side top Gavin great uncle the butcher and bottom newspaper article
  • Every truffle, tablette, and chocolate bar starts as a solid block of premium chocolate and ends as something a little bit special. Some flavours are bold. Some are nostalgic. All are made to be savoured.

Our shop on St Aubyn Street has a story of its own. Originally built in the 1930s and once run by Gavin’s great uncle as a local butcher, it’s now back in family hands — filled with the smell of chocolate instead of sausages. It’s a place to pop in for a good coffee, pick up a gift, or simply treat yourself (no excuse required).

We’re proud to craft chocolate in Taranaki that holds its own anywhere in the world — rustic at heart, with just a touch of luxury.
